How We Help
We work with families, children and educational settings in different ways in order to gain a better understanding of every child.
We support academic, social, emotional and/or behavioural development.
It's possible to arrange:
Consultation
One of our team will hold an initial telephone conversation with you to discuss your child in order to help determine what should be done next. Advice might be given in relation to their difficulties.
Assessment
We will meet you at home or in school / assessment centre.
What does an assessment involve?
During assessment a number of strategies may be used:
- Talking to your child to get a sense of their views and feelings.
- 1:1 work with your child using a combination of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools or tests to identify possible specific areas of strength as well as difficulties in relation to the areas you have discussed (examples include cognitive assessments, psychometric testing, dynamic assessments, attainments and assessments of social and emotional development).
- Using a combination of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools or tests to evaluate their social and emotional development.
- Discussions with parents
- Discussions with members of school staff
- Discussions with other professionals
Observation. - Structured interviews.
- Through assessment we learn about your child’s needs and put together an effective picture of their strengths as well as areas for development.
- We identify solutions to difficulties and find strategies to help children reach their potential.
School Discussion
If problems are school based it is usually helpful for the educational psychologist to discuss your child's progress with the school as well. If a child's difficulties are in school it is usually important to work out a strategy with school in order that the child's needs can be met.
Arrangements to review progress by discussion with school staff and parents or through further assessment can also be made.
Findings / Written Report
The implications of the assessment will be discussed with you fully and it is possible to provide a detailed written report.
